The Battle of the Mind
Trusting God when life feels uncertain
Where Am I? Who Am I? How Do I Feel?
Every believer faces moments when life does not make sense. Circumstances change, pressure increases, and questions begin to rise in our minds. In those moments, the greatest struggle is often not around us, but within us.
Where am I?
Who am I?
How do I feel?
Resentful.
Out of hope.
Bitter.
Alone.
At different times in life, many of us find ourselves in this place. Whether in family, business, or leadership, uncertainty can take hold. When that happens, the real battle often begins in our minds.
The questions start to come:
- What if everything goes wrong?
- Where is God in this situation?
- Why is this happening?
- Is this really part of God’s plan?
This is the moment when we need a spiritual reality check.
God Has Not Left Us
During a difficult season many years ago, there was a clear reminder in the heart:
“Have I ever let you down? I said I would never leave you or forsake you. Why would I do it now?”
Even years later, those words still challenge the mind. Yet in new seasons of difficulty, the same questions can return.
Why do we so easily believe the lies of the enemy?
Faith requires patience, and patience is one of the fruits of the Spirit. Yet waiting on God is often one of the hardest things we are asked to do.
Renewing the Mind with God’s Word
The Bible reminds us that the Word of God must live within us.
Psalm 119:11
“I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”
When fear, doubt, and worldly thinking dominate our minds, we lose the peace that comes from trusting God.
Instead, we must continually return to Scripture and allow God’s truth to shape how we think.
Colossians 3:17
“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
Living Aware of the Holy Spirit
Jesus promised that believers would not be left alone. He said He would send a Helper.
John 14:16–17
“And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper to be with you forever—the Spirit of truth.”
John 14:26
“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have said to you.”
The word Jesus used for Helper is the Greek word Paraklētos, meaning one called alongside to help.
- Advocate – one who speaks on your behalf
- Counsellor – one who gives wisdom and guidance
- Comforter – one who strengthens and encourages
- Helper – one who supports and walks with you
Believers were never meant to walk through life alone.
What This Means for Us Today
For those carrying responsibility in business, leadership, and family life, surrendering control can be difficult.
We are often conditioned to solve problems, carry the weight, and lead with confidence.
Yet Jesus invites us into something different.
He calls us to trust Him, depend on Him, and listen to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
That guidance may come through prayer, through Scripture, or through wise believers who walk alongside us.
Walking Daily with God
Living in partnership with God is not complicated, but it does require commitment.
- Remaining aware of the presence of the Holy Spirit
- Living with a repentant heart
- Staying connected through prayer
- Reading and meditating on God’s Word
- Trusting God’s timing
1 John 1:9
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
God’s grace is real. His guidance is real. His presence is real.
If you find yourself in a difficult season, do not panic. Do not believe the lie that you are alone.
Seek Jesus in prayer. Ask Him to fill your life with the Holy Spirit.
Be patient. Stay in conversation with Him throughout the day.
Wait for your portion of God’s grace. It is always worth the wait.
